dandy_orange Released only a couple days ago, but this is some of my favorite music I've heard this year. Beautiful melancholic songs with melodies that get stuck in your head. Not only that, but these songs are often uplifted by strings and horns gently accentuating the vocals & guitar. The lyrics will catch your ear and get your mind visualizing the imagery. The album has a consistent mood that makes for a satisfyingly cohesive experience upon a complete listen. Take forty minutes and give it a listen!! Favorite track: Meet Me.

The Thief 02:59
They come to you, all the boys and the men You make them whole and then you break ‘em again. You pull their breath, like the moon to the tide And no one could say it was worse when you tried. Do you find some relief in stealing their hearts, You thief? Flipped coins still are right half the time. Make the call and then pass the time. One palm up, he’ll take your hand Just for a moment, but don’t it feel grand? Do you find some relief in stealing their hearts, You thief? Catch his eye, though dim the night. He walks so tall and always finds his light. Move on quick like the march of a storm: Flood a new river and leave it all torn. Do you find some relief in stealing their hearts, You thief?

We’re in fight or flight With nowhere to run, no one to fight. They’ll keep on one by one Step in place, hear the thrum. We’re tempted every day To step outside, go and play. Dreamers will still dream And those who don’t will split at the seams. Take a deep breath. Empty out your chest. Quiet, now we wait. What’s next? I don’t know. Step back, enjoy the show. Fight nor flight will keep you. Shaken to the core, But melted rock still ties the score. Simple acts of play Will leave a mark—the price you pay. Take a deep breath. Empty out your chest. Quiet, now we wait. What’s next? I don’t know. Step back, enjoy the show. Fight nor flight will keep you.

One girl’s lot can make it seem That all she’ll ever do is dream. Blessed by an open hand, Her maker grew her sheep from lamb. Clipped knot, hairs all in her face, She waited peaceful day to day. She’ll face the naked road when she’s told, “Go ahead girl, go. Go ahead girl, go.” She leapt out past the empty moat, Stepped in puddles just for show. Skipped rocks quicken as they go, Keep the water rippling so. She’ll wait under bridges old. Hear the raindrops patter, cold. She’ll step towards a future bold when she’s told, “Go ahead girl, go. Go ahead girl, go.” Someone will say, “Baby don’t. Stay with me, forget your own.” Her day will contract and sway. Forget the other, go your way. Wet stones covered by the years Regret the time they spent in fear. Undone days of level plans when she’s told, “Go ahead girl, go. Go ahead girl, go. Go ahead girl, go. Go ahead girl, go.”

A Dream 05:22
You and I drove through a valley dark and still. A menagerie awaited all lit up in the sky atop the hill. Inside I knew would greet us all birds of black and gold, and white and green. But our fate was foretold and we couldn’t see. Down the riverbed we drove, ever closer to our goal atop the hill. Why couldn’t I let it go? ‘Cuz you won’t let it go. Why couldn’t I let you go? ‘Cuz you won’t let me go. Quickly we made our way up to the heights. Deftly I did follow the path between the rocks through the night. Suddenly the ground did wake up as I had the morn before. And our fate was foretold and we couldn’t see. Down the riverbed we drove, ever closer to our goal atop the hill. Why couldn’t I let it go? ‘Cuz you won’t let it go. Why couldn’t I let you go? ‘Cuz you won’t let me go. The earth was hungry, for it opened up wide, Eager to swallow all that it had in sight. ’Twas us and more. As my eyelids opened to face another day, I found your hand. And our fate was foretold and we couldn’t see. Down the riverbed we drove, ever closer to our goal atop the hill. Why couldn’t I let you go? ‘Cuz you won’t let me go. Why couldn’t I let you go? ‘Cuz you won’t let me go. Why couldn’t I let you go? ‘Cuz you won’t let me go.

My Maze 03:21
I’ve made a maze. Stayed inside for days. Don’t you feel it too? And now in view, a streak of light or two. And I know to see it through. We’re bound to cross paths again some time. Til then I’ll write in the post. It’s time for me to step away and see What it’s like from above. I hope to find the start and end in time And I’ll share it all with you. Distance drives what love can’t hide for life et al. Hurry time has far to fly and we can’t stay long. I’ve not the time to waste with you my will is new And I’m long overdue. Be sure to keep an eye out toward the southern peak for I’m not so far away. We’re bound to cross paths again some time. Til then I’ll write in the post. Goodbye friend, see you again. Don’t forget about me…

Your Name 03:44
They say be sure not to tread too lightly Or else you won’t find your way back home. Leave every print so shapely, No one would ever doubt that it was you. Don’t forget who made you And those who would see themselves in you. But long legs move so quickly When god has left nothing for you. So what’s your name? From birth or fame? Just a word, But make it heard. Oh, lift your voice to me. Every man is a pupil. Teach him of your name, he’ll spread it too. Think no more behind you. Home is where your face is nothing new. Time will soon forget you, So lay with me her jealous eyes will too. No man is forgotten by god and earth But names may get confused. And what perfect man who we know today Would give for a glimpse of a lighted stage? Lest he had lived in vain. So what’s your name? From birth or fame? Just a word, But make it heard. Oh, lift your voice to me.

Fire 03:27
Quiet flame stole in, all is changed. You could say the threat was playing games. Run your finger ‘cross. Take the day as a loss. X now marks the spot. And the past is all but not. What’s another mark upon your skin? You will last another day. See it now it looks the end of you. Eventually you’ll have an old tattoo. What a day. The stress, you’ll go insane. Who’s to blame? No one who you could name. Keep your fingers crossed. Take the day as a loss. Your heart strings all in knots. And the past is all but not. What’s another mark upon your skin? You will last another day. See it now it looks the end of you. Eventually you’ll have an old tattoo. Don’t let the breeze come in. It clears the smoke but lights the fire all again. Twist your fingers taught ‘round memories you’d forgot. Keep them close and caught. For the past is all but not. What’s another mark upon your skin? You will last another day. See it now it looks the end of you. Eventually you’ll have an old tattoo.

An Eyelash 05:56
He looked like a man who would die. Happy to be there but somethin’ in his eye. Take a drink, make the smoked blow out in rings. He looked like a man who would die. Break the mold, make a story to be told. Break my heart once again from the start, Once again from the start. Play your song from the start. An eyelash falls in my way. Make a wish ‘fore it’s too late. No it’s not a tear, it’s just somethin’ in my eye. He looked at the girl across the room. She drifted by on a cloud of perfume. Take the step towards a new life or regret. He looked at the girl across the room. But he just waits, lets the moment to escape. So start again the same thought you can’t relate. Talk my ear off again from the start, Once again from the start. Play that song from the start. An eyelash falls in my way. Make a wish ‘fore it’s too late. No it’s not a tear, it’s just somethin’ in my eye. He looked for himself in everything. In girls and liquor and fame, ‘mongst other things. Could he see all his power when he sings? He looked for himself in everything. Break the mold, make a story to be told. Take a hold of your life ‘fore it grows cold. Take my hand I’ll walk you through it from the start, Once again from the start, Once again from the start. An eyelash falls in my way. Make a wish ‘fore it’s too late. No it’s not a tear, it’s just somethin’ in my eye.

Meet Me 03:23
Drained by conversation but unable to be alone. Drawn to edges waiting for a moment to go home. Meet me by the back door. Wait and catch the moon. Don’t leave me all alone, I’ll be there soon. Caught by some acquaintance, remember who is who. Drink in hand is empty, a reason to be with you. Meet me out by the side. Lean against the car. I see you’ve caught a glimpse Of me through the bar. This night won’t end for us. Close but goodbyes a must. Wait just a moment more We can go home again. Tempted hesitation just a moment too soon Treated like a comment tossed out into the room. Meet me here by my side, Close and right on cue. Treat me like I’m a child, Hand held, pulled from the room. This night won’t end for us. Close but goodbyes a must. Wait just a moment more We can go home again. If you meet me here by my side, Close and right on cue. Treat me like I’m a child, Hand held, pulled from the room.

Time to Run 04:13
Come in, inside and shed your coat. We’ll see just how long you’ll be home Before you carry on from me. Come see, oh how the grasses move. Catch them, all the scents all anew. And look - looks like someone’s been here before us. Quicken the pace to a run, here we go. Watch not your feet lest you trip and stumble. See, that was fun, now we race back to home. Exhale, let the days pass us by. Time will keep us close for she’s blind. And each time I forget that she’s there, she knows. Let’s see if we can shake her stare. Stay close and we can lose her there For she is not kind to us no more. No time to waste, she’s picked up the pace. Never forget she’s there. She walks not in haste, and won’t lose our place. Never forget she’s there. Quicken the pace to a run, here we go. Watch not your feet lest you trip and stumble. See, that was fun, now we race back to home.
